Cube Stool

Product Description

LC14 Tabouret

Designed in 1952 for a modest seaside cabin in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera. The stool's genesis is traced to a discarded wooden crate discovered along the shoreline—a chance encounter that informed its straightforward, elemental construction. This origin story reflects a broader design philosophy of finding beauty and utility in simple, unadorned forms.

The distinctive oblong openings cut into the side panels serve a practical purpose within the cabin's limited interior. These apertures function as handholds, allowing the stool to be easily lifted and repositioned as needed. What might appear purely decorative is, in fact, a considered response to spatial constraints—a recurring theme in the design of furniture for compact living spaces.

Our version is constructed from solid Indian Teak, chosen for its density and workability. The wood is finished with Shellac, a natural resin that penetrates the surface while preserving the tactile quality of the timber. Each piece is carefully sanded and assembled, with particular attention paid to the clean execution of the dovetails and the smooth finishing of the handhold cutouts.
