Product Description
Pierre Jeanneret was a Swiss architect who spent much of his career in the shadow of his famous cousin, Le Corbusier. But in 1951, he stepped into the light, moving to India for what would become his life's masterwork: Chandigarh. While Le Corbusier was the grand visionary for this new capital city, Jeanneret was the man on the ground who made it real. For fifteen years, he served as the city's Chief Architect, supervising projects, designing public buildings, and mentoring a new generation of Indian architects. He didn't just build a city; he fell in love with a country. His deep respect for Indian culture and craftsmanship became the soul of the entire project.
The PJ-DC-01 is a definitive example of the "Compass" style that shaped the aesthetic of Chandigarh’s educational institutions. Originally commissioned for the Panjab University hostels and dining halls (c. 1960), the design is characterized by its sturdy, inverted "V" leg assembly—a form inspired by the architect’s drafting compass.
In this edition, the utilitarian rigor of the university original is refined for the modern home. The solid timber frame supports a seat and backrest cushioned with high-density natural latex, offering a level of resilience and comfort that far exceeds standard foam. Finished in 100% handloom cotton, the upholstery provides a soft, breathable texture that contrasts with the chair’s structural geometry, making it an ideal choice for both dining and study.
